Old times revive at Flora Batava

How proud Agnes would have been to see her restored Buitenplaats de Vijverhof again. Around 1670 the then owner Agnes Block built a country house and had an orangery and a beautiful garden laid out, including graceful lanes and ponds. Through exchange and trade with merchants and botanists, she developed into a real breeder of exotic plants and flowers. She collected hundreds of species, which earned her the nickname "Flora Batava". And now, over 300 years later in 2021, the former Buitenplaats has been fully restored and has been turned into a beautiful boutique hotel by the name of..... Flora Batava.  

The location alone captures the imagination. Flora Batava is located on the Vecht, the beautiful river that starts at the Weerdsluis in Utrecht and flows into the IJmeer at Muiden 42 kilometres away. On the way, it passes beautiful villages like Maarssen, Breukelen, Nieuwersluis, Loenen, Nigtevecht and Muiden. Not surprisingly, in the Golden Age the Vecht tempted successful merchants from Amsterdam, among others, to build beautiful country estates right here, many of which can still be seen.

On a sunny day, it is enjoyable on and along the water. Cyclists, hikers, touring car drivers and, of course, many water sports enthusiasts enjoy this beautiful region and still feast their eyes on all the splendour of past centuries. And now you can stay overnight in style as well, whether you come to discover the Vecht region, the cities of Utrecht and Amsterdam have been on your list for a while, have something to celebrate or need a business meeting or overnight stay. Flora Batava offers all her guests luxury and comfort to enjoy a nice time. The 45 rooms (divided over the main building and the coach house) come in all shapes and sizes for everybody's taste, like rooms with beamed ceilings, view on the river Vecht and the garden, high windows, special art and lamps. In addition, each room is furnished with delicious Nilson beds and all have the facilities you would expect from a stylish and contemporary Boutique hotel.  

The villa of Flora Batava also has a very fine restaurant "Bloei". Enjoy in the conservatory of a well cared for and delicious high tea with friends or enjoy by candlelight a delicious dinner in the room en-suite. Flora Batava offers her guests several nice arrangements. Go sniff culture in Utrecht, sail on the Plassen (lakes), cycle along the Vecht or go for pure romance ... everything is possible.
