Relaxed enjoyment on Ameland
"The hotel on Ameland for those who enjoy life. Of course, we would like to experience that ourselves, so we book a room there. And we can say nothing else: it's true. In one of the oldest family-run hotels in the Netherlands, in the village of Ballum on Ameland, it's all true, and as far as we're concerned, it's a jewel in the Waddenzee.
Before we leave, we get a message that our room is ready and that we can check in earlier. We are looking forward to it, so off we go to Ameland. Bicycles have been reserved and are ready for us upon arrival on the island; we leave the car in the car park in Holwerd. Waiting a while for the boat? Then be sure to taste a Nobeltje in the shop. Nobeltje, Ameland's best kept secret, is a sweet and powerful liqueur brewed by great-grandfather Nobel himself. We are fans! After a crossing of about 50 minutes we pick up our bikes and leave our luggage behind. This is brought to the hotel by the bike rental company. We cycle at our leisure from Nes to Ballum and check in.
At the reception, there is a cosy atmosphere and we receive a very warm welcome. Nobel Hotel Ameland has 19 rooms, a restaurant and a café. We chose to stay in one of the luxury lofts of the hotel. In total, there are two four-person lofts on the ground floor and two lofts for two people on the top floor. What a wonderful place and so tastefully decorated. Our loft has a living room with kitchen, a bedroom on a mezzanine and a fantastic bathroom with freestanding bathtub and double shower. The kitchen is equipped with a Jura coffee machine (and real Illy coffee beans)The lofts are fully self-sufficient, with a dishwasher and the basic necessities for cooking and eating. The lofts are completely self-sufficient, but if you want to pamper yourself to the max, you can rent a room in the lofts. Use the housekeeping and breakfast in the hotel. The perfect combination of a self-sufficient stay with the service, luxury and cosiness of a hotel. Would you like to immerse yourself in luxury? The former church across the street from the hotel has been converted into two incredibly beautiful church suites. Very luxuriously furnished, suitable for 6 persons and also both rentable for a group of 12 persons. The beautiful windows, which let in a lot of light, the luxurious design and wonderful facilities such as a whirlpool and/or sauna make your stay a real moment of pleasure. And last but not least, the suites are fully furnished and therefore self-sufficient.
Compact Ameland has four villages: Hollum, Ballum, Nes and Buren and about 25 kilometres of beach. You can go cycling, walking and enjoy nature to the full here, which is something we experienced ourselves, of course. Nature reserve Het Oerd on the east side of Ameland is a beautiful large dune area with beach plains. More than 60 species of birds breed here. And for the necessary culture, there are also several museums on Ameland that take you back to times gone by and show you how the island once was. All this, together with the many restaurants and terraces, makes a visit to Ameland a must.
Because of the hotel's location in the middle of the island in the small quiet village of Ballum, it is a perfect base. By bike, car or bus you can go anywhere. The beach is just around the corner and there are beautiful cycling and walking routes. Don't feel like thinking about what you want to do yourself? Then use the hotel's concierge service to put together a varied programme.
