Relax in the Green Heart

Niels and Laura, the owners of Stadsherberg Alphen aan den Rijn, have years of hospitality experience in France. And that shows. Entering the hotel means being warmly welcomed and the ambiance immediately feels very nice.

De Stadsherberg, once the headmaster's residence, is a boutique hotel with a restaurant, located in a stately building on Raadhuisstraat. "De Stadsherberg is intended as a meeting place where everyone, from young to old, is welcome to eat, drink and stay overnight. Alone or together," say Niels and Laura: "We offer you a feeling of home with the hospitality and personal attention of an old inn and the luxury and comfort of a modern boutique hotel."

And so it is. It really is like stepping into an inn, homely and cosy as ever, but with a contemporary twist. Soft pastel shades, nice seating areas where you can plop down as a guest, a nice bar, and when the weather is nice, a lovely outdoor area. And wherever you settle down, this is a good place for a cup of coffee or a glass of wine, for a good conversation, your favourite book, or for a game. Fancy some apple pie? Do it! In any case, everything here - breakfast, lunch, drinks and dinner - is prepared with love and attention.

And speaking of a good place to be, the hotel rooms are the perfect place to relax. Here too, the pleasant pastel shades give each room a certain softness. Delicious Swiss Sense beds, specially made for the Stadsherberg, nice alcoves, and some rooms even have a roof terrace.

Where are you actually? In the middle of the Green Heart. So you can literally go in all directions. Cycling through the Green Heart, from the Stadsherberg your back garden, is a feast so beautiful. Or sailing through the many small rivers. Powerful. But the beach at Katwijk is only half an hour away. And if you would like to do some extensive shopping, or soak up some culture, the cities of The Hague, Gouda, Leiden or Amsterdam are close by.

And when you return to the hostel in the evening, you will enjoy a delicious dinner, maybe go outside for a while, enjoy the evening that is falling, in the Green Heart.
