Diving into history with the help of Ysbrantsz

We drive along the beautiful harbour of Hoorn, and arrive at the back entrance of Boutique Hotel Ysbrantsz. A truly beautiful hotel with a contemporary feel. It is situated in the heart of Hoorn, and literally at the front of the hotel is the famous and very cosy square de Roode Steen. Next to the hotel, you can step right into the Westfries Museum. We will do that, but first a quick visit to Hotel Ysbrantsz. Marco & Laura, the owners, wanted to make their dream come true. A family-run, sustainable (gas-free) and hospitable hotel with a restaurant where Hoorn is central. A place for a cup of coffee, a pleasant dinner, a work meeting or an overnight stay in one of its historic rooms.

We enter the conservatory through the pleasant city garden. The mural at the front of the restaurant is the eye-catcher for us. Ysbrantsz has been painted here with a nod to the new era, which is very nice to see. Johan Ysbrantsz was a restorer in the 17th century. A warm, welcoming man who liked to give his guests a feeling of coming home. At Roode Steen 14, he welcomed guests for an overnight stay, cooked meals with spices that the sailors brought back from distant travels and welcomed people for home brewed refreshments. He knew how to spoil his guests, and that is what you now find in this hotel.

The hotel is full of fun and beautiful details. All 10 rooms are unique and have their own characteristic details and furnishings. All rooms have extra long box-spring beds. Whether you choose the spacious room with a bath and garden view or the room with a high ceiling and beautiful wooden beams, each room is decorated with great care and attention to detail. The kitchen is under the direction of chef Tom Tros. The regularly changing menu offers refined dishes, using seasonal and local produce as much as possible.

With hotel Ysbrantz, Hoorn has gained a pearl and also deserves to be in the picture. It has a rich history, is situated on the IJsselmeer, has nice special shops, museums and plenty of opportunities to be active.
